Top Georgia Republican Won’t Run for US Senate in 2022

Georgia’s Republican Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan said in an interview aired on Sunday he will not run for the state’s U.S. Senate seat in 2022. “You know what, my family and I have talked about it and we’re not going to run for the U.S. Senate seat. We’re going to stay focused on being the lieutenant governor here in Georgia and we’re going to focus hard on trying to rebuild this party, refocus GOP 2.0,” Duncan told NBC’s Meet the Press. The seat currently held by Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) will be contested in 2022. Warnock won a special runoff election for the seat in January against Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.), who was appointed to serve in place of Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), who had resigned due to health concerns.
